Where our nutrition data comes from
You should know exactly where the numbers in your food log come from — whether you search by name or scan a barcode. Nourvo draws on three sources, in this order of preference.
USDA FoodData Central
Most foods come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's FoodData Central — public-domain nutrition data maintained by the U.S. government.
Our curated core
For the staples you log most, we maintain our own entries — reviewed for accuracy and described in the portions people actually eat, so protein and calories stay trustworthy.
FatSecret Platform API
Some packaged and branded products aren't in the sources above. For those, we fall back to the FatSecret Platform API and label the result, so you always know its origin.
